MUMBAI, India, July 31 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411097092 A) filed by Indian Council Of Medical Research; and National Institute Of Technology Rourkela on December 09, 2024, for A Biocompatible And Biodegradable Hydrogel Composition And A Method Of Preparation Thereof.

Inventors include Verma, Devendra; and Gupta, Ritvesh.

The application for the patent was published on July 24, 2026, under issue no. 30/2026.

Abstract: Surgical adhesions occur in a significant percentage of operations, posing challenges due to limited effective prevention methods. Current solutions, including hydrogels, have limitations such as non-adherence, low stability, and uneven coverage. The present disclosure relates to a sprayable hydrogel composition and a method of preparing the same. The hydrogel composition of the present disclosure comprises a pre-solution of albumin, preferably pH adjusted human serum albumin, and a pre-solution of calcium, THPC and epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) that are mixed in a definite proportion to form the hydrogel composition. Hydrogels exhibited acceptable tissue adhesion strength and compressive strength with potential stability as polyphenol, preferably EGCG, delivery systems. The hydrogel, with antifibrotic properties, holds promise for preventing intra-abdominal adhesions. The one-step, easily applicable solution offers excellent efficacy, making it a valuable addition to surgical procedures.
