Abstract: A Bioactive Wound-Dressing Film Comprising Chitosan, Simarouba Glauca Seed Extract, And Silver Nanoparticles The invention discloses a biodegradable, biocompatible, and multifunctional bioactive wound-dressing film and a process for its preparation. The film comprises a chitosan polyvinyl alcohol polymer matrix plasticised with glycerol, incorporating a hydroethanolic seed extract of Simarouba glauca DC. as a phytoconstituent bioactive agent, ascorbic acid as a collagen-synthesis co-factor, and colloidal silver nanoparticles. The silver nanoparticles are colloidally stabilised within the cationic chitosan matrix through charge reversal encapsulation, exhibiting a positive zeta potential of about +45.68 mV. Prepared by solvent casting, the film exhibits a tensile strength of about 0.93 N/mm², moisture content of about 43.1%, and water contact angle of about 46.23°. The composite film provides simultaneous, synergistic broad-spectrum antibacterial activity against wound pathogens, concentration-dependent free radical scavenging antioxidant activity, anti inflammatory activity, extracellular matrix protection through collagenase and elastase inhibition, and accelerated scratch wound healing promotion.
