MUMBAI, India, Sept. 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611093622 A) filed by Manipal University Jaipur on August 03, 2026, for A Bio-Inspired Metabolic-Aware Qos Model For Mixed-Traffic Networks.

Inventors include Rishika Ray; and Pallavi.

The application for the patent was published on September 18, 2026, under issue no. 38/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a bio-inspired metabolic-aware Quality of Service (QoS) packet scheduling system for mixed-traffic communication networks. The system comprises capturing incoming network traffic, extracting statistical flow features, and employing a Random Forest machine learning classifier to identify application categories, including Video, VoIP, Chat, Browsing, and File Transfer, for assigning initial traffic priorities. A bio-inspired metabolic ageing mechanism dynamically updates packet priority based on queue waiting time using a metabolic priority function, enabling adaptive scheduling that minimizes latency and jitter while preventing starvation of lower-priority packets. The scheduler continuously selects packets having the highest dynamic priority for transmission, thereby ensuring efficient resource utilization and fair bandwidth allocation. The lightweight computational architecture supports deployment in routers, software-defined networking (SDN) switches, cloud platforms, edge computing devices, and Internet of Things (IoT) networks. The invention further supports encrypted traffic classification using statistical flow features without payload inspection, providing improved Quality of Service, stable throughput, enhanced fairness, and efficient queue management compared to conventional scheduling techniques.
