Abstract: A BATTERY PACK FOR A VEHICLE A battery pack (100) for a vehicle includes a tray (101) configured to accommodate a plurality of battery cells (102), each of the battery cells (102) including a vent port (103). A top cover (107) positioned over the tray (101). The battery pack (100) also includes a plate (104) disposed over the vent port (103) of the battery cells (102). The plate (104) comprises of a plurality of openings with an array of louvers (105) raised above the plate (104), wherein the array of louvers (105) is aligned with vent ports (103) of the battery cells (102). The battery pack (100) further includes a plurality of protective valves (106) positioned above the plate (104), each protective valve (106) being configured to seal the corresponding array of louvers (105) and to unseal in response to pressure exerted by vented gases generated due to thermal runaway, thereby moving the protective valve (106) towards the top cover (107). With this, the gas discharge direction may be appropriately controlled so that the generated venting gas may be discharged in a desired direction without affecting the adjacent cells and top cover (107) of the battery pack (100).
