Abstract: A battery management system (BMS) (100) and a method (300) for management of a battery pack in an electric vehicle (200) includes a thermal management module (102) that is in communication with one or more temperature sensors (202A) located within the battery pack (200), at least one radiator fan (204) and at least one shutter (206) of the vehicle (200). The thermal management module (102) is configured to receive data comprising temperature values within the battery pack (202) from the temperature sensors (202A) and actuate the at least one radiator fan (204) and open the at least one shutter (206) upon determining occurrence of an incidence of an undesirable thermal event within the battery pack (202), thereby enabling an incoming airflow to blow away harmful gases emitted from the battery pack (200) and prevent infiltration of the harmful gases into a passenger cabin of the vehicle (200).
