Abstract: ABSTRACT [0043] Water scarcity is a major concerning issue in the world at present. Of the total available percentage of water, only 3% is pure and the rest 97% is salt water. To overcome the water scarcity problem, a method called solar desalination is implemented in the present work. Solar energy is used to produce pure water by desalinating salt water. In this work, the 3D printing technique is used to develop a 3D printed sine grooved hemisphere and rectangle grooved hemisphere shape solar evaporator. The 3D printing technique is the novel method introduced in solar desalination to produce pure water using salt water. 3D printed sine grooved solar evaporator (3DP SGSE) and 3D printed rectangle grooved solar evaporator (3DP RGSE) are designed and developed using the FDM printing technique. [0044] The water evaporation is compared between 3DP SGSE, 3DP RGSE, and conventional solar evaporator (CSE). This 3DP SGSE & 3DP RGSE is used for experimentation to achieve the main objective of the work to enhance water absorption and evaporation. This 3DP SGSE & 3DP RGSE is converted into a thermal absorber using black adhesive fabric. Experimentation is performed for different depths of brackish water for 1cm, 2cm, 3cm, 4cm and 5cm. This water evaporation is performed with a greater number of components using 3DP SGSE since this trial and error method gave best results for 3DP SGSE. The highest water evaporation is observed for 5cm depth of water for 3DP SGSE which gave 180ml for 8-SGSE, 165ml for 16SGSE, 180ml for 24-SGSE. The highest water evaporation is observed for 5cm depth of water for 3DP SGSE where here number of components is increased the results are 130ml for 16-SGSE, 140ml for 24SGSE, 150ml for 32-SGSE. The least water evaporation is observed in CSE which has 115ml left over in the output. The 3DP SGSE using the advanced 3D printing fabrication technique offers a new approach for evaporation and enhance water absorption to develop pure water for drinking purpose.
