MUMBAI, India, June 19 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202617058821 A) filed by Interdigital Ce Patent Holdings, Sas on May 08, 2026, for 3d Motion Maps For Compression Of Time Varying Mesh Textures.

Inventors include Marvie, Jean-Eudes; Bhullar, Gurdeep; Galpin, Franck; and Mocquard, Olivier.

The application for the patent was published on June 05, 2026, under issue no. 23/2026.

Abstract: Methods and devices are provided to encode and decode time-varying textured 3D meshes in a data stream. By exploiting the 3D motion information from the base mesh encoder, a 3D motion map is generated that can be derived into different types of maps such as motion amplitude. Those maps have the property of being a bijection mapping between the object texture map and the motion texture map. As the 3D movement cannot be directly used as a motion estimator for the video coding, the amplitude of the 3D motion is interpreted in order to build an importance map that is transformed in a QP map provided to the video texture encoder and decoder.
