MUMBAI, India, April 17 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202531132748 A) filed by Asansol Engineering College, Asansol, West Bengal, on Dec. 28, 2025, for 'zone-limited smart attendance beacon system.'

Inventor(s) include Mr. Sudip Kumar De; Dr. Sheuli Chakraborty; and Dr. Abhishek Banerjee.

The application for the patent was published on April 17, under issue no. 16/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A zone-limited automated attendance system is disclosed that employs a plurality of region-limited IoT beacon modules and a coordinator beacon to physically restrict attendance marking to within a specified area, such as a classroom or meeting hall. User devices authenticate presence only when the combination and strength of detected beacon signals meet region criteria, ensuring attendance cannot be marked from outside or corridor. The system is low-cost, deployable without internet or infrastructure, privacy-respecting, and suitable for education and corporate settings.Student/employee wears wristband. On entering attendance zone (room), device scans for region beacons, LED blinks green, attendance is logged automatically. Teacher/admin can scan QR/NFC tag as backup. Weekly/monthly battery check or recharge as needed."
