MUMBAI, India, July 11 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202521058542 A) filed by Mrs. Jayanti Ranjeet Chitale; and Mr. Ranjeet Harihar Chitale, Pune, Maharashtra, on June 18, for 'window-grill mounted planter drainage and reuse system.'

Inventor(s) include Mrs. Jayanti Ranjeet Chitale; and Mr. Ranjeet Harihar Chitale.

The application for the patent was published on July 11, under issue no. 28/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "An innovative planter drainage and water reuse system for building facades includes a chajja-like horizontal projection (101) installed beneath a window grill. The projection has an inclined inner surface (102) that collects runoff from an overlying planter and directs it to an outlet leading into a vertical downpipe (103). Pipe (103) conveys the captured water into a sealed storage tank (104). The stored water is then used by connecting outlets: one for irrigation (105) of plants, one for cleaning or washing (106), and one for toilet flushing or similar non-potable uses (107). By capturing planter runoff in this way, the system prevents dirty streaks on the building exterior and conserves water. Collected water is reused for multiple purposes, reducing demand on municipal water supply. All components are compatible with typical window-grill installations and may be constructed of common materials such as concrete or polymer composites. In summary, the system offers a self-contained solution that keeps facades clean and recycles water, aligning with sustainable design practices."
