MUMBAI, India, Feb. 27 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641018703 A) filed by Dr Supriya J; Chethan S; K R Sai Akshaya; Shakthivel S; and Janhavi G V, Bengaluru, Karnataka, on Feb. 19, for 'weed free bot: an autonomous weed killing robot.'
Inventor(s) include Dr Supriya J; Chethan S; K R Sai Akshaya; Shakthivel S; and Janhavi G V.
The application for the patent was published on Feb. 27, under issue no. 09/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The robot is designed to autonomously navigate crop rows using advanced navigation and sensing technologies while continuously monitoring the field environment. Equipped with vision-based perception and machine-learning algorithms, the WEED FREE BOT accurately distinguishes weeds from crop plants in real time. Upon detection, the system applies targeted weed control actions, including localized herbicide micro-spraying, mechanical removal, or non-chemical thermal treatment, thereby minimizing damage to crops and significantly reducing chemical usage. The robot operates on an energy-efficient power system with intelligent power management to support extended field operations. Operational data such as weed location, treatment type, and coverage area is recorded and made available for farm analysis and decision-making. The modular and scalable design allows the system to be adapted to different crop types, field layouts, and farming practices."
