MUMBAI, India, April 17 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641019739 A) filed by Kalasalingam Academy Of Research And Education, Virudhnagar, Tamil Nadu, on Feb. 20, for 'wearable spectacle for memory assistance and person recognition.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The titled invention discloses a spectacle frame (1) with an image capturing camera (2), memory module (6) and a microcontroller (5) to capture, store, and recognize faces and provide audio feedback to users suffering from short-term memory loss, cognitive impairment, or visual disability. The device assists the user in identifying I 0 people previously seen or registered, thereby improving independence, confidence, and soCial interaction. The image capturing camera (2) is positioned at a front portion of the spectacle frame (1) to capture images or video frames of persons within the user's field of view. The captured visual data is processed by the microcontroller (5) to perform face detection, facial feature extraction, storage, and matching operations. 15 The memory module (6) stores extracted facial feature data along with associated identifying information about the person. A microphone (3} embedded within the spectacle frame captures spoken inputs, which are processed by a voice recognition module (4) to generate textual identifiers and associate them with corresponding facial data. A control button (7) enables user-initiated operations including image capture 20 and name recording. The speaker (8) provides audio feedback such as identity announcements and system prompts. The control and communication circuitry (10) manages data flow, processing coordination, and power regulation."
