MUMBAI, India, April 17 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641022310 A) filed by Sri Sai Ram Engineering College, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Feb. 25, for 'wearable safety band for real-time fall and man-overboard detection.'
Inventor(s) include Mithula R; Pavithra V; Keerthika B; and Dr. G. Tony Santhosh.
The application for the patent was published on April 17, under issue no. 16/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to a wearable safety monitoring system for maritime personnel operating in cargo vessels, passenger ships, and offshore installations. The system comprises a wearable unit incorporating a plurality of sensing elements including a motion sensing module, a physiological monitoring module, and a water contact detection ~odule, operatively coupled to a processing unit and a wireless communication interface. The processing unit is configured to continuously evaluate motion data, physiological parameters, water exposure status, and connectivity information against predefined safety thresholds. Upon detection of abnormal conditions, the system applies a predefined verification interval to confirm persistence of the condition before generating an alert notification to a remote monitoring platform. By integrating multi-parameter analysis with a confirmation mechanism, the inv-ention reduces false alarms and improves reliability of fall and man-overboard detection in maritime environments."
