MUMBAI, India, Jan. 9 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511115782 A) filed by GLS Speciality Chemicals Private Limited, Rewari, Haryana, on Nov. 23, 2025, for 'water-based polyurethane dispersion for improving surface adhesion of pet and flexible films.'

Inventor(s) include Neelakamal Mohapatra; and Angshuman Mukherjee.

The application for the patent was published on Jan. 9, under issue no. 02/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The disclosure provides a water-based polyurethane dispersion (PUD) formulated to increase the surface tension and surface energy of untreated polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and other flexible films. The composition includes 15-18% polyols, 6-8% aliphatic diisocyanates, 3-4% internal emulsifiers, 2-3% neutralizing agents, and 0.3-0.5% chain extenders in an aqueous medium. Optional embodiments having 18-30% solids and carboxyl-functional polyester polyurethanes enable primer applications on PET, BOPP, PE, and PP substrates. The PUD is prepared through a prepolymer dispersion process involving reaction, neutralization, aqueous dispersion, and chain extension. When applied, the coating forms a transparent film that raises surface tension above 42 dyne/cm, improving surface wettability and adhesion for printing, lamination, and metallization without corona or plasma treatment. The compositions offer excellent surface durability, flexibility, and low VOC, and may be optimized for food-contact compliance."
