MUMBAI, India, May 1 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641050533 A) filed by Sona College Of Technology, Salem, Tamil Nadu, on April 21, for 'waste-derived artificial aggregate and method of manufacturing the same for sustainable construction applications.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to a sustainable artificial aggregate composition and method for manufacturing the same using industrial and agro-industrial waste materials. The artificial aggregates are produced from a hybrid mixture comprising fly ash (45-70%), bagasse ash (3-10%), cement (8-25%), manufactured sand (10-20%), and mineral chips of approximately 6 mm size (3-15%) by weight of the total dry composition. The materials are dry mixed, followed by controlled addition of water to achieve a moisture content of about 25-28%, and pelletized to form aggregates of about 10-20 mm size. The formed pellets are subjected to initial air curing and subsequent moist curing to develop strength. The incorporation of bagasse ash provides secondary pozzolanic reaction and micro-filling effects, while the mineral chips act as internal reinforcement cores that improve load transfer and crack resistance. The resulting artificial aggregates exhibit improved crushing strength, reduced aggregate impact value, and controlled water absorption, providing a low-carbon alternative to natural stone aggregates for construction applications."
