MUMBAI, India, May 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641063643 A) filed by Coimbatore Institue Of Technology, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, on May 20, for 'voice-activated assistance system for elderly care.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. Valliappan Raman; Dr M Prabhavathy; and K R Shanmugapriyaa.

The application for the patent was published on May 29, under issue no. 22/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A voice-activated assistance system for elderly care, the said system comprising an edge hardware sub-system and a cloud processing sub-system in operative communication therewith. The edge hardware sub-system comprises a far-field multi-microphone array and an edge computing node with an on-board digital signal processing chain configured to perform hardware-level beamforming, hardware-level acoustic echo cancellation and hardware-level voice activity detection on a multi-channel raw audio signal so as to produce a beamformed mono speech segment. The cloud processing sub-system comprises an automatic speech recognition module configured to produce a transcript in a low-resource Indic language and a vector of prosodic and acoustic features from the said speech segment; a multimodal intent classification module configured to concatenate a transformer-derived embedding of the transcript with a normalised acoustic feature vector and project the resulting fused vector to one of a plurality of intent classes including at least one safety-critical class; a fast-path circuit-breaker configured to dispatch a caregiver alert and to bypass downstream stages upon classification of the said safety-critical class; a conditional generation module configured to generate a grammatically complete output sentence in the said low-resource Indic language using an encoder-decoder transformer conditioned upon a structured prompt of the form; and a neural speech synthesis module configured to convert the said output sentence into an output audio waveform."
