MUMBAI, India, June 27 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202527053132 A) filed by Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd., Guangdong, China, on May 31, for 'video encoding and decoding methods and apparatus.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Disclosed are video encoding and decoding methods and an apparatus, relating to the field of computers. The methods comprise: on the basis of processing parameters indicated by rendering information, an encoding end (a decoding end) selecting a first type of filters from set multiple types of filters; and by means of using the first type of filters, acquiring a virtual reference frame of data to be processed. Therefore, the encoding end avoids the problem of low compression performance caused by using fixed filters for processing reconstructed images to obtain reference frames; and when the encoding end encodes, according to virtual reference frames, images to be encoded, residual values corresponding to said images are lowered, thereby improving the compression performance and video encoding efficiency. Additionally, the decoding end avoids the problem of poor decoding efficiency caused by using fixed filters for processing decoded images to obtain reference frames; the matching degree between a virtual reference frame and a source image corresponding to an image to be decoded is increased, and the processing data volume is reduced when the decoding end decodes a second image frame according to the virtual reference frame, thereby improving video decoding efficiency."
