MUMBAI, India, Jan. 9 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541133324 A) filed by Dr. Anand Sekhar R; and Aparna R Pillai, Kollam, Kerala, on Dec. 30, 2025, for 'vernier compass.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Vernier Compass A vernier compass that provides improved accuracy and versatility in making technical drawings and measurements is disclosed. It comprises of an elongated rectangular frame featuring raised edges, wherein the inside part of said raised edges has a stepped profile. The top part of at least one of the raised edges features the main scale (8) engraved along its length. The space between the raised edges is hollow. At either ends of the frame is provided respective handles (3, 4) for support, wherein a vertical extension adapted to rest on the surface is provided at one end, opposite to the handle (3). Further, the conical, tilted pivot point (6) within an allowable angle ensures precise point-to-point contact between the reference pivot point and the writing instrument (pencil/pen), which in turn helps to improve the marking precision."
