MUMBAI, India, Oct. 11 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202444036546 A) filed by Karpagam College Of Engineering, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, on May 8, 2024, for 'vermiculite concrete.'
Inventor(s) include R. Manojsuburam; A. P. Arvint Yuvaraj; R. Dhivyabharathi; S. Franal Kumar; and S. Naveenkumar.
The application for the patent was published on Oct. 10, under issue no. 41/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Concrete is an artificial stone resulting from hardening of rationally chosen mixture of cement, fine aggregate, coarse aggregate and water. Sustainable development in the construction industry involves use of nonconventional innovative materials in order to compensate the lack of natural resources to find alternative ways for conserving the environment. In this study we use vermiculite as partial replacement for fine aggregate. Hence, an attempt has made to study the compressive strength and the split tensile strength of concrete using different proportions i.e., vermiculite of 0%,25%,50%,75%,100% in concrete mixes to which can yield better strength."
