MUMBAI, India, April 17 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641022356 A) filed by Saveetha Institute Of Medical And Technical Sciences, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Feb. 25, for 'velled cricket ball-measures speed of the cricket ball.'

Inventor(s) include R Keerthana; Dr. B. Mugilan; and Dr. Deepak Nallaswamy Veeraiyan.

The application for the patent was published on April 17, under issue no. 16/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "YELLED CRICKET BALL- Measures speed of the cricket ball The present invention relates to a cricket ball integrated with an internal speed measurement system capable of determining the velocity of the ball during delivery, throw, or fielding action. The cricket ball is designed to measure the speed at which it travels after being bowled or thrown, enabling accurate pertom1ance analysis for players. coaches, and training institutions. The invention maintains the external appearance, size, weight, and handling characteristics of a conventional cricket ball while incorporating internal sensing components. The speed measurement system operates without affecting the swing, seam behavior, or bounce of the ball during play. The invention provides a compact and durable internal stn1cture that protects the speed-measuring components from repeated impact, friction, and environmental conditions. The system records speed data during motion and allows access to this data either through internal storage or wireless transmission to an external device. By integrating speed measurement directly into the cricket ball, the invention eliminates dependence on external radar guns or camera-based tracking systems, offering a portable and consistent solution tor training and performance evaluation."
