MUMBAI, India, Jan. 23 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202521123365 A) filed by Dr. D. Y. Patil Institute Of Technology, Pune, Maharashtra, on Dec. 8, 2025, for 'vehicle theft detection using gps, gsm and raspberry pi.'
Inventor(s) include Mrs. Priyanka Dhumal; Dr. Smita Desai; Mayureshwar Sangewar; Shreya Nandan; and Sejal Sawant Bhosale.
The application for the patent was published on Jan. 23, under issue no. 04/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The Vehicle Theft Detection System using GSM, GPS, and Raspberry Pi is an IoT-based security solution designed to detect and prevent unauthorized vehicle access using real-time tracking and AI driven facial recognition. The system integrates a GPS module for location tracking, a GSM module for instant alerts, and a Raspberry Pi as the central processing unit. A Haarcascade Algorithm -based algorithm processes video input, extracting facial features to distinguish between authorized and unauthorized users. Upon detecting a theft attempt, the system sends an SMS or call alert with Real-time location details to the owner and optionally disables the vehicle's engine. The invention provides a cost-effective, scalable, and intelligent anti-theft system suitable for personal vehicles, fleet management, rental services, and smart transportation security. By integrating IoT, AI, and real-time monitoring, this system enhances vehicle security and theft recovery efficiency. Additionally, the system leverages grayscale image pre-processing and feature extraction techniques to optimize computational efficiency and enhance detection accuracy. Unlike traditional vehicle security systems that rely solely on GPS tracking or alarm triggers, this invention provides a proactive security mechanism by analysing live video feeds to detect unauthorized access before the vehicle is moved. The integration of remote monitoring and control via mobile notifications ensures that vehicle owners can take immediate action, such as tracking the vehicle's location or immobilizing the engine. With its AI-powered decision-making, real-time alerts, and IoT-enabled tracking, this system offers a next-generation vehicle security solution, reducing the risk of theft and improving vehicle recovery outcomes.
