MUMBAI, India, Jan. 9 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202441104607 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 30, 2024, for 'variable hydraulic preload system for machine tool spindle bearings and cascade-hybrid control architecture therefor.'

Inventor(s) include Devadula, Sivasrinivasu; Nimmagadda, Ramesh Babu; and Tudu, Anirban.

The application for the patent was published on Jan. 9, under issue no. 02/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The invention discloses a system (100) and method (200) for real-time variable preload regulation of spindle bearings using a cascade-hybrid control architecture (155) to maintain stability under dynamic conditions. A spindle assembly (50) includes an integrated hydraulic actuator (55) that exerts variable preload on bearing pairs 5 (53,54), with displacement measured by an LVDT sensor (57) for direct feedback. A PLC (90) acquires real-time data including current (125), pressure (126), and displacement (127) and transmits these to a processor (150). The system (100) integrates a displacement-pressure loop to calculate a desired pressure (126a) and a hybrid current loop to calculate a total current 10 signal to achieve required a desired preload (127a). This command modulates a proportional pressure relief valve (82) within a hydraulic circuit (80) to ensure high-fidelity tracking. A SCADA-based interface (156) enables real-time monitoring and tuning."
