MUMBAI, India, May 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641062340 A) filed by Adichunchanagiri University; and Adichunchanagiri Institute Of Medical Sciences, Mandya, Karnataka, on May 16, for 'utility of transvaginal sonography with extended examination for fetal anatomical survey during 11-13+6 weeks of pregnancy.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. Preethi Maski; and Dr. Mahendra. G.

The application for the patent was published on May 29, under issue no. 22/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to a novel integrated ultrasound-based method and system for comprehensive fetal anatomical survey during the early first trimester of pregnancy, specifically between 11 to 13+6 weeks of gestation, utilizing both transabdominal sonography (TAS) and transvaginal sonography (TVS) with extended examination protocols on the same individual to achieve superior visualization rates and early detection of fetal anomalies. This approach leverages high-frequency transvaginal ultrasound probes (5.0-7.5 MHz) combined with standard transabdominal probes to overcome limitations of conventional second-trimester screenings, enabling earlier, more accurate identification of structural malformations and chromosomal risk indicators while reducing emotional, financial, and medical burdens associated with late-stage diagnoses."
