MUMBAI, India, May 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641061005 A) filed by Chaitanya Bharathi Institute Of Technology, Hyderabad, Telangana, on May 13, for 'universal modular diffuse reflectance attachment for uv-vis spectrophotometers.'

Inventor(s) include Marepally Bhanu Chandra; Venumbaka Maneesh Reddy; Avinash S. Vaidya; and Gengan Saravanan.

The application for the patent was published on May 29, under issue no. 22/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure relates to a modular Diffuse Reflectance Spectroscopic (DRS) attachment configured to enable a UV-Vis absorption spectrophotometer to perform reflectance-based analysis of solid samples. The attachment comprises a cuvette (100) housing an integrating sphere (105) having a light inlet (101) and a light outlet (102), and a rotatable sample holder (103) comprising a sample space (104) and a sample fixing space (106). A light guide (200) comprising a light inlet cavity (201), reflection slots (203), a cuvette slot (204), and a light outlet cavity (202) is configured to direct incident radiation towards the integrating sphere (105) and guide diffusely reflected radiation towards a detector. The attachment enables reversible conversion between transmission-based and reflectance-based measurement modes using an existing detector without modification of the spectrophotometer."
