MUMBAI, India, May 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641062273 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Vellore, Tamil Nadu, on May 16, for 'uav-based system for detection and geolocation of underground pipeline structural deformation.'
Inventor(s) include Tanmaya Kumar Das; Shivain Khera; and Jai B Shah.
The application for the patent was published on May 29, under issue no. 22/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A UAV-based system for detecting structural deformation in underground pipelines is disclosed. The system comprises a thermal imaging module configured to capture subsurface thermal variations, a preprocessing module configured to convert thermal data into color-mapped images, and an onboard edge computing module configured to perform real-time analysis using a machine-learning model. The system further includes a detection module for identifying structural deformation, a localization module for associating detected anomalies with geographic coordinates and timestamps, and an output module for generating annotated thermal images and geotagged data. The integrated system enables real-time detection and mapping of pipeline deformation to support predictive maintenance."
