MUMBAI, India, Feb. 6 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541122416 A) filed by New Prince Shri Bhavani College Of Engineering And Technology; Pravina S; Salini K; and Durgadevi G, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 5, 2025, for 'trashtrack: waste disposal monitoring with uv-c sterlization and plastic compression.'
Inventor(s) include Pravina S; Salini K; and Durgadevi G.
The application for the patent was published on Feb. 6, under issue no. 06/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Waste management in pub I ic and institutional areas is frequently plagued by challenges such as inappropriate disposal, bad odours, and hygiene hazards. Conventional. bins lack measures to ensure safe handling and responsibility for garbage disposal behaviour. This concept presents TrashTrack, a smart lrashcan system that combines Al-powered vision monitoring, UV-C sanitation, and actuator-driven plastic compression in a single module. The AI camera identifies and records instances of inappropriate garbage disposal, allowing for accountability and punishment. Following each usage, a UV-C light sterilization cycle is initiated to eliminate germs and odour, guaranteeing sanitary conditions within the bin. An integrated low-power actuator compresses plastic garbage into compact blocks, lowering bulk and making recycling easier. The device also uses ultrasonic sensors to check fill levels and give timely alarms. Through this integration, the project aims to create a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable waste management solution suitable for campuses, hospitals, airports, and smart cities."
