MUMBAI, India, Oct. 31 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411030513 A) filed by Amity University, Noida, Uttar Pradesh, on April 16, 2024, for 'transition-metal free regioselective c-5 chalcogenation of 8-hydroxyquinolines and preparation method thereof.'

Inventor(s) include Suman Majee; Anjali; Ranjan Patra; Biswajit Saha; and Devalina Ray.

The application for the patent was published on Oct. 31, under issue no. 44/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention discloses Transition-Metal Free Regioselective C-5 Chalcogenation of 8-Hydroxyquinolines or C-5,7 dichalcogenation of 8-Hydroxyquinolines with the general formula of I or II and preparation method thereof. A novel and environmentally friendly protocol for the transition-metal free regioselective C-5 chalcogenation or C-5,7 dichalcogenation of 8-hydroxyquinolines has been developed. This method utilizes sodium hydride in DMF as a catalyst, producing a series of novel 5 or 5,7-selenyl/sulfenyl-8-hydroxyquinolines. These molecules, confirmed through X-ray crystallography and spectroscopic analysis, open new avenues in drug development and molecular imaging due to their unique structure and fluorescence properties."
