MUMBAI, India, Jan. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541124710 A) filed by Srm University - Ap, Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh, on Dec. 10, 2025, for 'traffic management system and method for real-time traffic congestion prediction and dynamically optimize vehicle routing.'
Inventor(s) include Dr. Rajiv Senapati; and Dharani Sabari. S.
The application for the patent was published on Jan. 2, under issue no. 01/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The invention provides a computer-implemented system for real-time road traffic congestion prediction and dynamic route optimization in physical road networks. A data acquisition module continuously collects vehicle-related traffic data, environmental parameters, and geospatial attributes of road segments. A hybrid congestion prediction engine, combining a Random Forest model and a Convolutional Neural Network trained on spatio-temporal map segments, generates a congestion score for each road segment. A percentile-based thresholding module classifies the congestion score into low, moderate, high and severe categories. A Dynamic Route Optimization Algorithm computes alternate vehicle routes using the classified congestion and environmental conditions including weather, air quality, road works and closures. A visualization interface displays congestion indices and updated route recommendations in real time. A controller executes all modules continuously, enabling automatic re-optimization of vehicle routes in response to changing congestion, thereby improving travel efficiency, safety and environmental performance in smart city transportation networks."
