MUMBAI, India, Nov. 21 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202517097494 A) filed by Wass Submarine Systems S. R. L., Livorno, Italy, on Oct. 9, for 'torpedo provided with a safety arming system.'
Inventor(s) include Paoli, Giacomo; Bondi, Filippo Maria; and Nelli, David.
The application for the patent was published on Nov. 21, under issue no. 47/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Torpedo (1), wherein an explosive warhead (6) comprises three explosive components: a detonator (10) which receives an activation command; a booster explosive (11) which is detonated by the detonator (10); and a main explosive (12) which explodes following the explosion of the booster (11). The three explosive components (10, 11 and 12) are alternately available in a safety position in which any accidental detonation of the detonator (10) cannot operate the explosion of the main explosive (12) and in an arming position. An electronic control unit (8) or a circuit compares the current absorbed by the motor with a first lower current threshold Imot-low and a second higher current threshold Imot-high so as to carry out the following safety control operations of the warhead (6) if the intensity Imot of the measured current is lower than the first current threshold Imot-low or higher than the second current threshold, the generation and/or transmission of the activation command to the detonator (10) or the arrangement of the three components in the arming position is inhibited."
The patent application was internationally filed on Mar. 22, 2024, under International application No.PCT/IB2024/052751.
