MUMBAI, India, Sept. 26 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202421021589 A) filed by Drs. Kiran & Pallavi Patel Global University, Vadodara, Gujarat, on March 21, 2024, for 'topical foam spray of voriconazole for fungal and yeast infection.'

Inventor(s) include Patel Dhruvi Ghanshyambhai; Dr. Prachi Pandey; and Dr. Chirag D. Nagda.

The application for the patent was published on Sept. 26, under issue no. 39/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Topical Foam Spray of Voriconazole for Fungal and Yeast Infection The present invention provides description about the alternative method of drug administration of Voriconazole as it is only available in the oral and intravenous formulation in the market. The research work focuses on the formulation of the topical foam spray of Voriconazole for Fungal and Yeast infection. Fungal infection is very common amongst the hot and humid weather like in Asian countries. It is the cause of ear about 13 million infections and 1.5 million deaths per year. The drug is effective against the superficial fungal infection and causes side effects like hepato-toxicity and neuro toxicity when given orally or systematically. Hence, it is only wise to formulate the drug in the area of treatment which is to formulate for topical administration. In the proposed work topical foam spray of the drug would be prepared cost-effective, wide spread-ability on the skin, non-touch contamination free effect, leaving no grease or residue, skin friendly, self-administrable, has better permeation through skin and also gives better patient compliance. The proposed work consists of foaming agent, polymer, foam stabilizing agent also acts as a permeation enhancer, pH adjusting agent, solvents and preservatives."
