MUMBAI, India, Aug. 1 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202311085379 A) filed by Indian Council Of Agriculture Research, New Delhi, on Dec. 14, 2023, for 'timer and weight-based sensing system for automatic fertigation preparation and application for soilless substrate cultivation.'

Inventor(s) include Ravindra Dhondibhau Randhe; Murtaza Hasan; D. K Singh; S. Naresh Kumar; Pramod Kumar; Wasi Alam; and Indra Mani.

The application for the patent was published on Aug. 1, under issue no. 31/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The invention relates to the development of a timer and weight based automatic fertigation preparation and application controller system for the preparation and application of fertilizer suitable for crops grown in soilless substrate-based grow bags, pots, and containers. The objective of the invention is to precisely prepare and apply the fertilizer in real time using a timer and a single load cell based weight sensing system suitable for any crop and to be flexible or modifiable by the end user, thus avoiding the excess loss of fertilizer as well as specific crop suitability. With the help of this invention, a predefined quantity of fertigation (per plant basis) can be applied to the crop and it can also be fitted with an automatic fertigation preparation unit and controller (as in fig. 2), so fertigation application and preparation can be performed in real time. Thus, it results in significant savings in time, cost of operation and costly inputs."
