MUMBAI, India, March 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641024421 A) filed by G Ashwin Prabhu; Dr. Sylvia Grace J; Mani Maran P; Maayav Balasubramanium I J; Mohammed Haathim; and Manu Madhavan P, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on March 1, for 'time-adaptive smart electrical socket with automatic safety isolation.'
Inventor(s) include Dr. Sylvia Grace J; Mani Maran P; Maayav Balasubramanium I J; Mohammed Haathim; and Manu Madhavan P.
The application for the patent was published on March 13, under issue no. 11/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present project entitled "Time-adaptive Smart Electrical Socket with Automatic Safety Isolation" focuses on the design and development of a safety-oriented smart electrical socket capable of protecting connected appliances from overload conditions and reducing fire hazards. Unlike conventional plug sockets that rely only on fuses or Miniature Circuit Breakers (MCBs), the proposed system continuously monitors the load current in real time using a current sensor and applies intelligent decision logic through a microcontroller. The system allows short-duration inrush currents using a time-delay mechanism, disconnects the supply if overload persists, automatically attempts power restoration once, and permanently locks out the output if the overload condition repeats. This controlled auto-reset and lockout strategy significantly improves electrical safety and reliability. The proposed design is low-cost, standalone, does not require internet connectivity, and is suitable for domestic, educational, and industrial safety applications."
