MUMBAI, India, May 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641044135 A) filed by Saveetha Institute Of Medical And Technical Sciences, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on April 7, for 'thermochromic stretching apparatus for indicating tissue readiness for knee osteoarthritis rehabilitation exercises.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to a thermochromic stretching apparatus for indicating tissue readiness during rehabilitation exercises in individuals with knee osteoarthritis. The apparatus comprises a flexible, elastic stretching band designed for placement around the knee joint and integrated with a thermocliromic temperature-responsive indicator. The indicator provides real-time visual feedback by undergoing a distinct color change when periarticular soft tissue reaches a predefined safe temperature range for stretching and exercise, and signals unsafe conditions when the tissue is insufficiently warmed or excessively heated. The apparatus is non-electronic, lightweight, portable, reusable, and easy to use, making it suitable for clinical physiotherapy, geriatric care, sports rehabilitation, and home-based knee osteoartliritis management. In use, the band is positioned around the knee prior to exercise. As tissue temperature increases tlirough warm-up, movement, or therapeutic heat application, the thermocliromic indicator responds to surface temperature changes, informing the user when safe exercise conditions are achieved. The apparatus may be fabricated using elastic polymeric or textile materials and thermochi'omic inks, films, or coatings. Its sinaple, low-cost construction allows ease of cleaning and routine use. By providing an objective visual cue of tissue readiness, the invention enhances safety, reduces injury risk, and improves the effectiveness of knee osteoartliritis rehabilitation exercises."
