MUMBAI, India, May 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641062378 A) filed by Adichunchanagiri University; and Adichunchanagiri Institute Of Medical Sciences, Mandya, Karnataka, on May 16, for 'the impact of proton pump inhibitors on laryngopharyngeal reflux disease.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. Nishant Gupta; and Dr Ravi. K. S.

The application for the patent was published on May 29, under issue no. 22/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR) is a common condition where stomach contents flow back into the throat and voice box, causing symptoms like hoarseness, throat clearing, cough, and a lump sensation without typical heartburn. This study examined the effectiveness of Rabeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor, given as 20 mg twice daily for six weeks in 100 patients diagnosed with LPR. Treatment led to significant improvements in both patient-reported symptoms measured by the Reflux Symptom Index (RSI) and doctor-observed laryngeal changes measured by the Reflux Finding Score (RFS). Lifestyle factors such as smoking affected results, while dietary habits had less impact. The findings support Rabeprazole as an effective option when combined with lifestyle changes for better patient comfort and throat health."
