An example method for wireless communication at a UE includes receiving a first resource pattern for one or more time resource units of a TDD transmission slot format pattern, wherein one of an FD communication mode or a non-FD communication mode is indicated for each time resource unit of the one or more time resource units based on the first resource pattern. The method also includes receiving an indication indicating a second resource pattern for a subset of the one or more time resource units. Additionally, the method includes communicating with a network entity in each respective time resource unit using a communication mode based on the second resource pattern."
