MUMBAI, India, March 14 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202441068742 A) filed by Stellantis Auto Sas, Poissy, France, on Sept. 11, 2024, for 'tailgate for automobile.'

Inventor(s) include Sanjay Kumar Ganapathy; Vetrivel Kumaran; and Darshan Mehta.

The application for the patent was published on March 13, under issue no. 11/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A tailgate for an automobile, comprising, an outer panel (108) exposed exterior to the automobile and an inner panel (101) coupled to the outer panel. The inner panel comprises a first side (111) and a second side (110). The second side includes a seal resting face (114). A latch reinforcement (102) having a sealing face (104), a first side member (105), a second side member (106) and a top member (107). The sealing face of the latch reinforcement is joined to the seal resting face of the inner panel by means of a structural tape (103), and the first side member, the second side member and the top member joined to the inner panel by means of a spot welding. The tailgate exhibits enhanced product durability, product slam cycle, waterproofing and sealing to prevent noise, vibration, harness, air leaks and dust entry into the automobile."
