MUMBAI, India, March 14 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202441068032 A) filed by Cummins Inc., Columbus, U.S.A., on Sept. 9, 2024, for 'systems and methods for detecting biodiesel in fuel.'

Inventor(s) include Ashwyn Vinay Parambath; Utkarsh Verma; Shashank Suryakant Punde; and Sanghpal Yeshwant Ukey.

The application for the patent was published on March 13, under issue no. 11/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A method of determining a presence of biodiesel in a fuel system includes receiving a first temperature regarding an inlet of a first component of the aftertreatment system and a second temperature regarding an outlet of the first component. The method includes determining an actual exotherm value regarding the first component based on the first temperature and the second temperature. The method includes enabling a first flag based on the actual exotherm value. The method includes receiving an expected temperature regarding the outlet of the first component. The method includes determining an expected exotherm value regarding the first component. The method includes enabling a second flag based on the expected exotherm value and the actual exotherm value. The method includes enabling a biodiesel detection flag responsive to enabling at least the first flag and the second flag."
