MUMBAI, India, July 5 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202311087272 A) filed by Mercedes-Benz Group Ag, Stuttgart, Germany, on Dec. 20, 2023, for 'system for transmission brake and parking lock in a vehicle.'

Inventor(s) include Arafat Mohamed.

The application for the patent was published on July 4, under issue no. 27/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure discloses a system for transmission brake and parking lock in a vehicle (130). The system comprises a braking module, which in turn comprises: a casing (112) configured around output shaft (114) of transmission (124), and adapted to receive and accommodate an electrorheological fluid (108); radially extending pedals (116) rotatably fixed to the output shaft (114) for rotation within the casing (112); and magnetizing means (118) positioned in the vicinity of the casing (112) to magnetize the electrorheological fluid (108) within the casing (112). The system also comprises a controller (120), which is in communication with the braking module, and selectively actuates the magnetizing means (118) for magnetizing the electrorheological fluid (108), which results in an increased viscosity of the electrorheological fluid (108), leading to a resistance to rotation of the pedals (116), and generation of a corresponding braking force on the output shaft (114)."
