MUMBAI, India, Jan. 9 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511117918 A) filed by Ajay Kumar Garg Engineering College, Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, on Nov. 27, 2025, for 'system for quantifiable mechanical deformation of data storage devices.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. Saroj Kushwah; Mr. Vishal Choudhary; Tushar; and Dr. Ayushi Prakash.

The application for the patent was published on Jan. 9, under issue no. 02/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A system (100) for irreversible physical neutralization of data storage media is disclosed. The system (100) comprises a mounting frame (102), a release latch (104) retained in the mounting frame (102), and an energy accumulator (106) coupled to the release latch (104). A striker body (108) is driven by the energy accumulator (106) through a force coupler (110) towards an anvil element (112) fixed to the mounting frame (102) across a media bay (114). A cover-actuated linkage (116) connected to the release latch (104) and arranged with a panel fastener (118) governs actuation. Upon closure, the striker body (108) is driven against the anvil element (112) across a data carrier (120) to apply a force not less than 2 kN to induce plastic deformation over at least 60% of the carrier area, resulting in residual recoverable signal not exceeding 3%."
