MUMBAI, India, Jan. 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511104609 A) filed by Lovely Professional University, Phagwara, Punjab, on Oct. 30, 2025, for 'system for intelligent drowning detection.'

Inventor(s) include Sami Anand; Gazal Sharma; Lavish Kansal; and Dr. Atul Kumar Singla.

The application for the patent was published on Dec. 12, under issue no. 50/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A system for intelligent drowning detection comprises of a YOLOv11 deep learning model 101 optimized for real-time, low-power operation on the Raspberry Pi 5 (8GB RAM), configured to continuously analyze live video streams of water bodies for detecting drowning incidents based on learned behavioral patterns from the custom annotated and augmented dataset representing diverse drowning scenarios, a video acquisition module for capturing continuous footage, the preprocessing module for performing normalization and a YOLOv11 inference engine to enhance detection accuracy and robustness, the system further incorporates the decision and alerting module that evaluates temporal motion sequences to differentiate between normal swimming activities and potential drowning behavior, a local alarm for immediate on-site notification and simultaneously transmits mobile alerts through IoT networks."
