MUMBAI, India, Oct. 31 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202431032452 A) filed by Tata Steel Limited, Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, on April 24, 2024, for 'system for detecting presence of surface defects on rebars and method thereof.'
Inventor(s) include Vasanth Subramanyam; Prabal Patra; and Gyan Prakash.
The application for the patent was published on Oct. 31, under issue no. 44/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Disclosed subject matter relates to a system and a method for detecting presence of surface defects on rebars. The system includes plurality of capturing units positioned proximal to a rebar manufacturing assembly, and located at predefined angle with respect to each other, for capturing images of rebars. The plurality of capturing units is synchronized for capturing same part of the rebars. Further, system comprises plurality of lighting emitting sources to emit light of a predefined wavelength for illuminating rebars, and defect detecting device configured to receive the images for detecting presence of surface defects on rebars. The defect detecting device comprises dual configured neural network comprising object identifying neural network for identifying ribs of rebars on the images, and defect detecting neural network for detecting defects on surface of the rebars. The defect detecting neural network disregards the identified ribs as the defects on the surface of the rebars."
