MUMBAI, India, July 5 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202311087515 A) filed by Mercedes-Benz Group Ag, Stuttgart, Germany, on Dec. 21, 2023, for 'system for cranking engine in hybrid vehicle and method thereof.'
Inventor(s) include Tanmoy Dutta; Devpriyo Ghosh; Sanjay Gupta; and Ayush Behera.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure provides a system and a method for craning an engine (218) of a hybrid vehicle. The method includes checking (802), if the engine needs to be cranked, checking (804), when it is determined that the engine needs to be cranked, if a corresponding pure electric drive is active, and operatively coupling (806), when it is determined that the pure electric drive is active, a corresponding axle of the hybrid vehicle to the engine of the hybrid vehicle, through a transmission assembly, to transfer power obtained from inertia of the vehicle to the engine for cranking of the engine. The coupling (806) comprises engaging a highest-probable gear of a plurality of gears of a transmission assembly to crank the engine."
