MUMBAI, India, Jan. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541124998 A) filed by Mahanim India Private Limited, Hyderabad, Telangana, on Dec. 11, 2025, for 'system and versatile process for compression and reconstruction of digital images.'

Inventor(s) include Dr Debdoot Sheet; Dr Ramanathan Sethuraman; and Varma Srinivasa Konala.

The application for the patent was published on Jan. 2, under issue no. 01/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A system (100) for compressing and decompressing digital images is disclosed. The system (100) is configured to adaptively process image data across varying source and sink image sizes, transmission channel characteristics, device capacity and capabilities, and codec evolution. The system (100) comprises a Primary Encoder Unit (102) that generates a lossy compressed representation of an input source image (122) as an ordered set of channels (302); a Secondary Encoder Unit (104) that further compacts the channels (302) into quantized and losslessly compressed bitstreams (304) organized into prioritized packets (306); and a Stream Selector Module (106) that dynamically selects packets (306) based on network and device conditions. A Communication Module (108) transmits the selected packets (308). A Secondary Decoder Unit (110), Stream Regularizer Unit (112), and Primary Decoder Unit (114) collectively reconstruct an image of the desired sink image size. The ordered set of channels (302) are structured progressively, enabling smaller image sizes to be reconstructed using fewer ordered set of channels (302), the corresponding bitstreams (304), and the prioritized packets (306), and larger image sizes using additional ordered set of channels (302), allowing versatile and efficient performance across varying image sizes, diverse devices, varying transmission channel characteristics, whereby providing graceful degradation of image quality under restricted network conditions, and supportive of codec evolution."
