MUMBAI, India, June 27 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202341087101 A) filed by M/S. Bharat Electronics Limited, Bangalore, Karnataka, on Dec. 20, 2023, for 'system and methods for sonar signal acquisition, processing & control.'

Inventor(s) include Nidhal Mattil Mansoor; Jisha G; Bivin George; and Prakash S P.

The application for the patent was published on June 27, under issue no. 26/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "System and methods for multi-channel sonar signal acquisition, processing and control suitable for multiple sonar application is disclosed. A typical example of a multi-channel sonar is Imaging Sonar. Based on the sonar requirement, number of channels required for Transmit transducer array and receive transducer array varies. Most of them need multiple receive channels for generating multiple beams using receive beamforming techniques. It is evident from the architecture of a typical multi-channel sonar system that, there are many challenges. There is a distributed control structure making it difficult for realizing sonar applications requiring synchronous operations. There are multiple modules performing different tasks occupying valuable real estate in a system, which makes it difficult to build compact systems. They are highly customized for a particular sonar application and in most of the cases are not reusable for other applications. Moreover, multiple sonar systems need to run in parallel to realize different sonar applications. A highly integrated, compact and generic data acquisition, processing and control architecture suitable for multi-channel sonar, with provision for simultaneous operation for multiple sonar applications, will save cost, space and power, and also will ensure reusability, portability, and improved time to market. One such system and methods is proposed here."
