MUMBAI, India, May 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611053159 A) filed by Hcl Technologies Limited, New Delhi, on April 26, for 'system and method of optimizing video storage.'
Inventor(s) include Sivasakthivel S; Banumathi P; Yuvarajan Shanmugasundaram; Sourav Dey; Thameem Ansari A; and Harshini S.
The application for the patent was published on May 29, under issue no. 22/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The disclosure relates to system (100) and method (500) of optimizing video storage. The method (500) may include intercepting (502) a video upload request comprising a raw video file and inputting (504) the file along with a structured schema into a multimodal large language model (MLLM) to detect duplicate videos. The detection may include comparing visual characteristics with database videos to generate an initial candidate list, refining the list using content-based feature comparison, and verifying candidates against threshold-based similarity metrics to produce a resultant duplicate list. For each identified duplicate, a structured visual metadata record may be generated (506), and the corresponding database entry may be replaced (508) with a metadata hyperlink referencing the original video source. Upon playback, requests to duplicate entries are redirected to stream from the original file, thereby reducing storage redundancy and improving efficiency."
