MUMBAI, India, May 1 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641048755 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on April 16, for 'system and method of elevator operation.'
Inventor(s) include Malay Bhattacharjee; Reeves Wesley; and Rajkumar Murugesan.
The application for the patent was published on May 1, under issue no. 18/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to a system (100) and a method (300) of elevator operation by combining visual sensing with input validation. A camera sensor (104) captures image data from a predefined zone near an elevator entrance and forwards the data to a processor (102-2). The processor (102-2) analyzes the image data to determine human presence, posture, movement, and continued waiting behavior. An elevator button interface (106) supplies hall call signals representing user requests for elevator service. The system (100) correlates visual analysis results with received call signals to distinguish genuine boarding intent from transient or abandoned requests. Based on this correlation, the system (100) generates control decisions that are transmitted to an elevator controller (108). The elevator controller (108) executes stop or bypass actions in accordance with the received decisions, enabling selective halting of the elevator only when verified demand exists."
