MUMBAI, India, Feb. 27 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541134490 A) filed by Thiagarajar College Of Engineering, Madurai, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 31, 2025, for 'system and method for visual fault classification in solar photovoltaic (pv) modules.'

Inventor(s) include R. Priyadarshini; Dr. P. S. Manoharan; D. Suriya Kumari; Dr S. Mohamed Mansoor Roomi; Dr. K. Priya; and Dr. L. Ashok Kumar.

The application for the patent was published on Feb. 27, under issue no. 09/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to a system (100) and method for visual fault classification in solar photovoltaic (PV) modules (104). The system (100) comprises an image acquisition unit (102) configured to capture images of PV modules (104), an image pre-processing unit (106) for performing filtering, resizing, and augmentation, and a fault classification unit (108) comprising a trained neural network (110) configured to extract visual features and classify PV faults. A control and monitoring unit (112) executes the trained neural network (110) to determine PV module condition, while a data storage module (114) stores annotated image datasets. A communication module (116) transmits classification results to a remote cloud network (117), and an output interface (118) provides fault classification results indicative of conditions including normal, soiling, partial shading, cell damage, and breakage."
