MUMBAI, India, Jan. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541122821 A) filed by Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 5, 2025, for 'system and method for transit vehicle scheduling with distributed optimization and demand forecasting.'

Inventor(s) include Sabapathy, Sundaresan; Thiruvarul, Yashwanth Priya; Pandiyaraj, Vijay Santhosh; Maruthu, Surendar; and Sasi, Deepika.

The application for the patent was published on Jan. 2, under issue no. 01/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure provides a transit vehicle scheduling system and a method for dynamic route optimization with distributed computational processing and demand forecasting. The system includes transit stops (102) housing infrared sensors (104) and processor (108) generating count data (106), a central server (110) generating passenger demand forecasts (112), and a distributed processor network (114) with processing nodes (114-2) executing routing computations using alternating direction method of multipliers (114-4) to generate route schedules (116). The system includes transit vehicles (120) with vehicle communication unit (122) and vehicle navigation interface (124) directing vehicles along optimized routes. Unlike conventional transit scheduling systems using fixed routes and centralized optimization, this distributed approach enables real-time demand-responsive routing through concurrent computations across multiple processing nodes, reducing passenger wait times while maintaining vehicle capacity constraints and enabling adaptive schedule adjustments when actual demand deviates from forecasts."
