MUMBAI, India, Jan. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541123217 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Vellore, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 6, 2025, for 'system and method for steering angle prediction in autonomous vehicles using convolutional neural networks.'

Inventor(s) include Dr Vishnu Priya Arivanantham; and Mr. Adarsh Tiwary.

The application for the patent was published on Jan. 2, under issue no. 01/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure provides a system for steering angle prediction in autonomous vehicles, including a front-facing camera configured to capture sequential images of a driving environment, a processing unit, and a convolutional neural network executed by the processing unit and configured to process the captured images and predict steering angles for autonomous vehicle control, wherein the convolutional neural network includes a custom architecture designed for steering angle prediction. The convolutional neural network includes four convolutional layers with progressively increasing filter counts, each followed by batch normalization, activation functions, and pooling operations, two fully connected layers with dropout regularization, and an output layer configured to output continuous steering angle values. The system achieves a mean squared error of 0.0040 and a mean absolute error of 0.0449 with real-time processing capabilities and a model size of 5.19 MB for deployment on resource-constrained embedded automotive systems."
