MUMBAI, India, May 1 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641051328 A) filed by Rayavarapu Bhavani Sankar; Sushma Rathi; Rohan Dewangan; Mr Parthiban A; Dr. Reenu Batra; and Dr. Shashi Kumar A, Bapatla, Andhra Pradesh, on April 22, for 'system and method for smart irrigation integrated with civil engineering infrastructure.'
Inventor(s) include Rayavarapu Bhavani Sankar; Sushma Rathi; Rohan Dewangan; Mr Parthiban A; Dr. Reenu Batra; and Dr. Shashi Kumar A.
The application for the patent was published on May 1, under issue no. 18/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to the development of an intelligent irrigation system integrated into civil engineering structures that optimizes the usage of water in urban and landscape settings. The system uses IoT sensors that are installed in the road surface, bridges, retaining walls, and other drainage systems to detect soil moisture content, atmospheric humidity levels, temperature, rain, and stress on structures. An AI-driven central computer analyzes the data obtained using edge computing technology to control and regulate the irrigation system that is interconnected with the present stormwater channels and pavements. The integration of the system with the civil engineering structure gives it a dual use as it can stabilize foundations using precise watering to avoid soil subsidence, and it also helps in managing floods using water redistribution. Machine learning models are used to forecast water requirements and minimize consumption by up to 40%."
