MUMBAI, India, Jan. 9 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541133692 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 30, 2025, for 'system and method for self-powered smart footwear with real-time physiological sensing.'

Inventor(s) include Shankar Raman N; Dhanush Sriram G; Shakil Sunder C S; Nathezhtha T; Abirami S; Sakthivel G; and Sivakumar R.

The application for the patent was published on Jan. 9, under issue no. 02/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A system (102) for health and activity monitoring using a smart footwear (100) may include a processor (302), memory (304), a sensor module (150), and a power management unit (140). The sensor module (150) comprises a first set of sensors (150-1) to capture user activity data and a second set of sensors (150-2) to capture health data. The processor (202) analyzes the data using a learning model (310) to determine activity intensity, identify health indicators, and detect abnormal patterns. An energy control unit (204) regulates power from a first power unit utilizing piezoelectric energy and a second power unit utilizing magnetic induction energy. Feedback signals are transmitted to a user interface for real-time alerts and recommendations. The system operates without external charging, enabling continuous monitoring for sports performance, rehabilitation, and preventive health applications in daily wear."
